The Vice President welcomed 25 members. June will be a busy month for our members. We have committed to making cakes and serving teas in support of the Flower Show in Over Peover on the 3rd of June.
We are busy preparing exhibits and will bake bun loaves for the Royal Cheshire Show and invitations have gone out for the WI garden party.
Mary Bowers organised a very successful raffle in support of the Group Spring Meeting raising £215.
Brosters Nursery have very kindly provided new planters for the village hall and members have agreed to plant red, white and blue plants in celebration of the Queen’s birthday.
Our trips for upcoming months are as follows:
Wentworth House and Park on the 13th of July
A trip to the ‘Clink’ at Styal Prison for afternoon tea in August
Details for a trip to Buckingham Palace and Windsor in September are being discussed
A fund raising fashions show by Fizz in October
Members enjoyed a 7k circular walk in the Gawsworth area in April.
A walk from Davenports Tea Shop, Acton Bridge has been planned for May. Details of walks available from Barbara Wilson, guests and dogs are welcome.
The Creative Embroidery class displayed their beautiful work they had created under the expert instruction of Sue Newhouse.
The evening speaker was Peter Ashburner from Wright Marshall Auctioneers & Valuers – Life as an Auctioneer. It was a fascinating and amusing talk. He brought along some items to show us and we were amazed at how valuable items can be. For example a broken watch fetching £55,000, 6 bottles of wine selling for £6,000. Peter’s speciality is toys and he has become the North West expert on Barbie Dolls which caused a laugh.
We meet at 7.30pm on the last Thursday of the month at Over Peover Village Hall. There is a friendly and welcoming atmosphere and the speakers are invariably of a very high standard as are the homemade cakes and tea to follow. New members are most welcome.
