OVER PEOVER WI – PRESS REPORT – Meeting and dinner 28th August

PRESS REPORT

OVER PEOVER WOMEN’S INSTITUTE MEETING

AND DINNER THURSDAY 28TH AUGUST 2014

At the end of August we had our summer dinner at Byley Farm. The food and service were wonderful. We observed a minute’s silence out of respect for two very dear WI members who died in August; Connie Welton and Audrey Mottershead. However, in positive mood, the warm and friendly atmosphere and good company enhanced a lovely meal as we all remembered with fondness two ladies who had contributed so much to our WI and will be sadly missed.

This summer we have been delighted by Fatima – an oriental belly dancer who explained the origins of the dance with amazing animated facial expressions and a wonderful turn of phrase which was part Liverpudlian, part Ancient Egyptian. Members were inveigled into joining in her oriental “cabaret”. We heard about “Otzi the Iceman” from Peter and Simon Rose. About 45 years old when he died on the Italian/Austrian border, he had been preserved by the dry air and then the snow and ice for about 5200 years! “Otzi” had so much equipment and personal items on and around him which have told the historians so much about the life he led but controversy still rages about the cause of death. Mesmerising stuff!

We meet at 7.30pm on the last Thursday of the month at Over Peover Village Hall. There is a friendly and welcoming atmosphere and speakers are invariably of a very high standard as are the homemade cakes and tea to follow. New members are very welcome.
