Knutsford 10k Road Race 19 April 2020
There have been a number of comments to the Parish Council regarding the above race the details of which were notified to village residents by posting leaflets through their doors a few weeks ago by the organisers ‘Run North West’.
There has been confusion between this event and the annual Colshaw Hall 10k race which takes place on the 10th May 2020, resulting in two events with road closures within three weeks.
Run North West is a commercial business and should have consulted with the village council, local businesses and residents before submitting an application to Cheshire East Council for Temporary Road Closures for the event through and around Over Peover confirming there were no objections.
This did not take place, but the application was approved by the council’s Events Safety Advisory Group, not the Temporary Road Closure section.
The Parish Council has since had a meeting with the organisers of the race, and they admitted that they had not followed the correct procedures but went ahead regardless.
The Parish Council has objected on the grounds of lack of communication and disregard of residents’ concerns and has contacted Cheshire East for clarification of a process that allows commercial organisations to arbitrarily apply for road closures that affect residents’ movements. They have replied that there is little they can do if the process has been followed, (in this case it has not) but if there are complaints, they can review the decision.
This race will close all roads into and out of the village from 0830 until the earliest 1030 and for some parts of the route until 1230.
If you want to object or complain regarding this imposition, then please contact the following website highlighting the date of the race.
