Peover underlined their credentials for promotion with a convincing victory over Woodley Albion at Stocks Lane. With Peover leading 2-1 at half time they completed the job with 3 goals shortly after the break to effectively kill off the tie and record their first ever win against the Stockport outfit.
Peover started well and were on the offensive straight away with some dynamic play from midfield. Peover enjoyed the better of the opening stages but the away side manoeuvred well times without creating any clear chances. Dan Barron came the closest to opening the scoring when he shaved the post after a run and drive from outside the area during an assured display from the youngster. At the other end the main attacking threat came from long throws but Peover's defence dealt with these stoutly. Peover registered the first goal of the game when Ed Bloor squared to an unmarked Neil Stewart to blaze home from just inside the area. Following this Peover continued to get into some good positions but couldn't extend to their lead before the interval making it 1-0 at half time.
The game commenced with Peover enjoying much of the play without engineering any gilt edged chances. Woodley looked capable of scoring on the break but it was Peover who made the breakthrough when Neil Stewart blazed home from Andrew Boon’s throughball. After the goal Peover invited Woodley to attack and they paid the price when the visitors capitalised on a goalkeeping fumble to level the scores. It looked it may be all square going into the break until Michael Rathbone was brought down in the area to award the hosts a hotly disputed penalty. Mike Dalton duly obliged from the resultant spot kick ensuing Peover were 2-1 up at the interval.
The second half started off all Peover as they quickly added to their tally when Alex Pearson gambled on Neil Stewart’s cross to convert. Another goal soon followed as a result of a fine counter attacking move that ended with Mike Dalton tapping into an empty net. With Peover rampant they were awarded a second penalty when Alex Pearson was impeded in the box to give Mike Dalton the chance to complete his hat-trick from the spot. He accomplished this to make the score 5-1 for the hosts with around half an hour left on the clock. Both teams had chances to score during the remainder of the contest with Woodley firing a penalty wide and Peover endangering the visitors goal, nevertheless the game ended 5-1.
So a good win for Peover in their first game back for over two months and they will be pleased with how the game panned out. With an away day to league strugglers Rileys next week they can feel confident of maintaining their unbeaten run.
