Also known as Peover Superior, the village of Over Peover is situated 5 miles south of the historic town of Knutsford in the county of Cheshire. This ancient parish is mentioned in the Domesday Book, the survey undertaken after the Norman Conquest, and dates back to Anglo Saxon times and before. The name Peover means Bright Stream or Shining Water and refers to The Peover Eye, the river which forms one of the parish boundaries. You can read more about the fascinating history of the village and Peover Hall in the book written by Barry Wienholdt and John Mottershead and published to commemorate the Queen’s Golden Jubilee in 2002. To read a brief extract just click on “History”.
Today, Over Peover is a modern rural community in a peaceful and attractive countryside environment. To learn more about the facilities which form the basis of our “village life”, please select from the main menu. Thank you for visiting our website.

Village Show 10th September – Exceptional Turnout!
A superb example of village tradition is Over Peover’s biennial show of garden produce, baking and crafts in competition which has been held since 1982 when the first show was organised by WI member, Audrey Mottershead. A regular, well-attended, village event, it has recently enjoyed a surge in both popularity and numbers of entries. It is great fun with a lovely atmosphere but it is also fiercely competitive. Professional judges are employed and the standard is very high. This year the current organiser, Judy Wienholdt and the show secretary, Angela Eccles, reported a very healthy increase in numbers. There were over 200 entries for the 39 categories and the children’s section was particularly popular. The village hall was alive with a friendly mix of exhibitors, organisers and spectators enjoying the show with the help of home made refreshments provided by the stalwart ladies of the WI. The feeling of being part of something quintessentially British, was palpable.
Sadly though, despite handbills and posters around the village and a prominent article here on the village website, there were still some local people who hadn’t heard about the show and were very sorry to have missed it. Watch out for details of the 2013 show and make sure that you spread the news by word of mouth as well. Don’t risk missing this delightful part of Over Peover village life!
